May Wright Sewall State Historical Marker Dedication

A public dedication ceremony for an Indiana state historical marker commemorating renowned women’s suffrage leader May Wright Sewall is scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2019. The marker dedication will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Veterans Memorial Plaza, along the south side of E. North St. between Meridian St. and Pennsylvania St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46204. Metered parking is available along the streets nearby.

The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony for this state historical marker that examines Sewall’s key role and contributions to the Women’s Rights Movement in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Sewall helped improve the quality of education for women in the country and worked to secure suffrage at the local, state, national, and international level. 2020 marks the centennial celebration of women’s suffrage in the United States. The marker dedication will provide a forum for women’s history organizations and interested individuals to discuss other commemorative events and programs relating to the centennial.
