Dublin Women’s Suffrage Centennial Launch
October 15, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:45 pm
11:00 amIndiana’s effort to win women the right to vote began in the Wayne County town of Dublin in October of 1851. So, Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, who chairs the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, will celebrate Dublin’s important role on Tuesday, Oct. 15 by commemorating that historic moment.
The convention speech delivered by one of Indiana’s most famous suffragists, Amanda Way, will be re-enacted prior to the presentation by Lt. Gov. Crouch. This event will begin at 11 a.m. in the Dublin Friends Meetinghouse, 2352 West Maple Street, one block south of the event’s historic marker on U.S. 40. The church where the convention was held no longer stands, but this Quaker church was erected several years later on the same street.
