4th Mondays – League of Women Voters
August 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
6:00 pm
The League of Women Voters Montgomery County and Crawfordsville District Public Library present “Votes for Women! 4th Mondays Events.” Join us for our kickoff event to be held on Women’s Equality Day, the 99th anniversary of the enactment of the 19th Amendment in Crawfordsville. By invitation, we will be inviting 35-50 organizations in the county to participate in a rally/commemoration/kickoff of this momentous year. Groups will be invited to dress in common suffrage colors. They will be encouraged to carry signs and wear sashes!
We will gather at the Montgomery County Courthouse at 6:00 p.m. to march the block and a half to our new outdoor venue, Pike Place, where we will rally as standing grounds before the stage.
Mayor Todd Barton will read a proclamation declaring this Women’s Suffrage Year in Crawfordsville. Other county/city officials may speak briefly. Representative Sharon Nagel, who wrote law 1347 proclaiming the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission for the state, will speak briefly.
We will then ask a member of each invited group to gather and say a few words about why suffrage matters to them. We will also have a torch that will be passed on to Girl Scouts, 4-H clubs, and other young women and men at the end of the program.
At the end of this hour-long program, members of the 4th Mondays Team will announce the 4th Mondays programs that will be held monthly for two years at the library.
